Short version

CollegeDex is built so that what you enter stays with you. Your profile, shortlist, reminders and tracker are saved in your own browser and are not sent to us. This page explains the details, including what third-party services may do when you use the site.

What we store on your device

When you use features such as the profile, Dex, choice list, budget and EMI calculators, document checklist, reminders and application tracker, the information you enter is saved in your browser’s local storage on your device. We do not receive it. You can download or delete it from your profile page, or clear it with the Clear my data button, or by clearing your browser data. Things saved this way include your name, exam and rank, category and state, education details, selected colleges, saved scholarships, reminders, budget figures and settings such as dark mode, language and low-data mode.

What we do not collect

At present we do not run accounts, and we do not ask for your phone number, email address or documents on the site. If we add accounts, alerts or any form of sharing in future, it will be optional, explained in plain words before you decide, and you will be able to withdraw your consent.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and the time of the visit, in server logs. We use this to keep the site working, to understand which pages are useful and to protect against abuse.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses local storage for the features described above. Third-party services we use may set their own cookies, as explained below. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Third-party services

Some pages load content from other providers. These include Google Fonts for typefaces and OpenStreetMap for the map on a college page. When your browser loads them, those providers receive your IP address and technical details, under their own privacy policies. In low-data mode, maps are not loaded.

Advertising

CollegeDex may show advertising in future, including through Google AdSense. If we do, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings, and you can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services on Google’s own privacy pages. Ads will always be labelled, and they will not change how we present or rank colleges.

Children

The site is meant for students and parents. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we do not collect accounts or contact details, nothing is stored on our servers about any user. Parents are welcome to use the site together with their children.

Your choices and rights

You can clear everything saved on your device at any time. If we later hold personal data about you, you will be able to ask us to access, correct or delete it. You can also contact us with any privacy question at contact@collegedex.in.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. Material changes, such as starting to collect personal information, will be announced clearly on the site.
